MISSION
|
Faith's
Mission team involves church members who have a heart
for service to both our local church community and the
worldwide church community. The focus of the team is to
serve and share Christ in a variety of ways.
Mission Projects
These
are some of the local and global mission projects the
mission team sponsors each year:
|
• |
Red Cross blood drive |
|
• |
Child Saving Institute gift drive at Christmas |
|
• |
Together, Inc. food and household items drive |
|
• |
Habitat for Humanity house build |
|
• |
CROP Walk |
The
CROP Walk is a good example of a joint local and
international project. Participants secure pledges for a
local walk, then the dollars collected are dispersed
worldwide to fight hunger and provide relief in places
like the Sudan and Darfur.
Living Nativity
The
Mission team is responsible for the presentation of our
annual Living Nativity during the second weekend of each
December. This event is considered our annual Christmas
gift to the Omaha community.
This
event depicts a drive-through scene in Bethlehem on the
night of Jesus' birth, complete with a cast of human and
animal characters. We even have a live camel!
The
Living Nativity is an annual opportunity to share the
good news of Jesus Christ with believers and
non-believers alike, with the hope that non-believers
will discover a new way of life that includes Christ.

information on our Living Nativity.
Special Offerings
The
Mission team sponsors four special offerings during the
year, with the proceeds going to the Disciples of Christ
headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. The funds we
collect are pooled with dollars collected nationwide to
assist groups like Church World Services and fund the
Disciples of Christ seminary students and missionaries.
These
are the special offerings we collect:
|
• |
Week of Compassion |
|
• |
Reconciliation |
|
• |
Easter |
|
• |
Christmas |
Special
Offering dollars also help fund disaster relief around
the world and in our own country, and provide financial
support for promoting peace and racial unity. Faith's
annual budget also includes a tithe to D.O.C.
headquarters for discretionary distribution to many
agencies.
